It is time for this week’s movie news roundup, where I pick some of the stories that caught my eye over the last seven days.

Ludi Lin joins Aquaman cast – Ludi Lin, who starred in Power Rangers this year as the Black Ranger Zack, has joined the DC Cinematic Universe film Aquaman as Murk, a close ally of Aquaman. Murk is the leader of the front line of the Atlantean army, known as the Men-of-War, and the character has served under the ruler of Atlantis in the comics. As well as Jason Mamoa in the titular role, Lin will appear alongside Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, and Willem Dafoe. You will be able to see Aquaman on 21st December 2018, and see the character’s first appearance in Justice League on 17th November of this year.

David Ayer in talks for Scarface remake – A new remake of Scarface has been rumoured for some time at Universal. Now it seems as though it could be one step closer to coming to fruition as they’ve entered talks with David Ayer, who is actually did some work on a version of the screenplay back in 2011, to direct. Ayer is best known for writing Training Day, as well as writing and directing Fury and Suicide Squad. This wouldn’t be the first time that Scarface has been remade as the most famous 1983 Al Pacino version of the film is actually a remake of a 1932 film. There is still not much concrete surrounding a new adaptation of Scarface yet, but this could be a step forward in the production.

Tom Hardy is Venom – It seems as though Sony isn’t content letting Marvel run things with Spiderman, and are going ahead with their plans for a Venom led spin off. The character has previously appeared in the much-maligned Spiderman 3, but this new version will bring the character closer to the antihero version that you can see in comic books. And Sony has gone after some big name talent with the film. Venom himself will be played by Mad Max: Fury Road, and Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy, whilst Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer has signed on as director. The film is currently being eyed for a release as early as 5th October 2018.

That is it for this movie news roundup. I would love to hear your thoughts on any of the stories from this week, and if there are any I’ve missed. Let me know in the comments.
