It is time for this week’s movie news roundup, where I pick some of the stories that caught my eye over the last seven days.

Jeff Goldblum back for Jurassic World 2 – Jeff Goldblum, who was a costar in both 1993’s Jurassic Park and its sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park from 1997, will be returning to the franchise. Goldblum will be reprising his role as Dr Ian Malcolm, who was one of the fan favourite characters from the original Jurassic Park, so much so that he was made the primary focus of the second film. Jurassic World 2 is the follow up to 2015’s hugely successful but critically divisive Jurassic World, and will also see Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return. Colin Trevorrow will write Jurassic World 2 but he will be handing over the directing reigns to J. A. Bayone, the director of A Monster Calls. Jurassic World 2 is currently slated for a June 2018 release.

Star Wars Episode IX gets release date – The final film in the newest Star Wars saga has been given a release date. Star Wars Episode IX has been moved up from December to the Summer, with a current release date of 24th May 2019. Episode IX is still untitled, but will follow on from The Last Jedi. Between the two the Han Solo spin off starring Alden Ehrenreich will be released in 2018. Star Wars Episode IX is the final part in the new sequel trilogy, and will be helmed by Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow.

McG leaves Masters of the Universe – He-Man’s return to the big screen in the Masters of the Universe reboot has lost its director, McG. Despite this the film is still scheduled to be released in December of 2019. David S. Goyer, who has worked as a writer on the Blade Trilogy, The Dark Knight Trilogy, as well as Man of Steel, has joined the project as the Screenwriter. The last time we saw a Master of the Universe film was 1987 which had extremely poor critical response, but has gone on to become a big cult classic.

M. Night Shyamalan announces Glass – Nobody expected M. Night Shyamalan’s newest film Split to actually connect to his classic 2000 Superhero film Unbreakable. But the big twist revealed a Bruce Willis’s character David Dunn comparing The Beast from Split to Mr Glass from Unbreakable. On Wednesday Shyamalan took to Twitter to reveal his new sequel to the two films that will see Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, James McAvoy, and Anya Taylor Joy all return. He also announced that the film would be called Glass as well as a release date for the film. He described the as a “crazy comic book thriller”. You will be able to see Glass in cinemas on 18th January 2019.
