It’s time to roundup the news stories that caught my eye over the past week.
First look at new Lego film – As The Lego Batman Movie hit cinemas (check out my review here) Warner Animation Group released the first trailer for their next project, The Lego Ninjago Movie. This is based on another Lego property, but one that doesn’t have the name recognition of the Lego Batman toy line. The film follows 6 teenagers who are trained by an old master to be ninjas and take on the warlord Lord Garmadon. The film will star the vocal talents of Dave Franco, Michael Peña, Kumail Nanjiani, Jackie Chan, and Justin Theroux. What do you think of the trailer? Do you want to see The Lego Ninjago movie.
Kevin Smith teases new Jay and Silent Bob film – Director Kevin Smith, who created films such as Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, posted a picture on Instagram with an accompanying message stating his plans for a new addition to the Askewniverse, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Smith describes the new film as “a tongue-in-cheek, silly-ass satire that pokes fun at the movie business’s recent re-do obsession”. The last time we saw Jay and Silent Bob appear was in 2006’s Clerks II. Are you excited to see Kevin Smith return to the Askewniverse and these characters?
Marvel releases Infinity War teaser – Marvel Studios took to Twitter on Saturday to release the first teaser for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. The teaser is a short featurette featuring the likes of Christ Pratt, Robert Downey Jr, Tom Holland, Kevin Feige, and The Russo Brothers. The teaser discusses how this is the culmination of all three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how they had to attempt to make Thanos the most impressive villain in the history of the MCU. What did you think of this teaser? Did it get you more excited for Infinity War?
Thandie Newton in talks for Han Solo film – Thandie Newton is the latest big name involved in talks for the upcoming Lord and Miller directed Han Solo spin off film. It is currently not know what role Newton is in talks for, but she received huge praise for her work in the HBO science fiction hit Westworld last year. If Newton gets a role in the film then she will join a cast list that currently includes Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, and Emilia Clarke. What do you think of this potential casting news? Do you like how the Han Solo cast is shaping up?
La La Land takes the top prize at the BAFTAs – Once again La La Land has found itself claiming the top prize at an award ceremony, as it won 5 BAFTAs, including Best Film. Casey Affleck and Emma Stone claimed the leading actor prizes, whilst Viola Davis and Dev Patel took home the supporting prizes. Manchester By The Sea and Lion won the Screenplay awards, whilst I, Daniel Blake won in the Outstanding British Film category. Meanwhile, despite being nominated for 9 awards apiece Arrival and Nocturnal Animals failed to make much of an impression, only managing one win between them, which was Arrival in Best Sound.
