Star Wars Episode VIII gets a title – Its been a long time coming but we finally have a title for the upcoming Star Wars episode VIII, after it was revealed on starwars.com. The will be titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi, something that most people are assuming refers to Luke Skywalker’s status as the last remaining Jedi. The Last Jedi is due to be released in December of 2017, and sees Looper director Rian Johnson taking over the directorial duties. So what do you think of the new title? Is it fitting for a Star Wars film or not?
La La Land equals Academy Awards nominations record – La La Land equalled the record for the most Oscar nominations of all time. It scored 14 nominations, including best Picture, Director, Actor, and Actress. The other two films to have scored 14 nominations were All About Eve in 1950 and Titanic in 1997. There were also strong showings from Moonlight and Arrival that both claimed 8 nominations. You can see the full list of nominations here. Jacob Tremblay joins the cast of Predator – Room star Jacob Tremblay has joined the cast of Shane Black’s upcoming Predator film. Shane Black appeared as Rick Hawkins in the original film and has taken over the directorial reigns. Tremblay joins the hugely talented cast including Sterling K. Brown, Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn. Are you excited for this new Predator reboot? And do you like the casting of Tremblay in a key role?
Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman return to the MCU – Black Panther will now feature multiple returning characters from previous MCU films. Andy Serkis has already starred as Ulysses Klaue in 2014’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is known as one of Black Panther’s signature villains. Martin Freeman meanwhile played Everett K. Ross in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, this is another character that has appeared alongside Black Panther in the past in the comics. They join Chadwick Boseman Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, and Forest Whitaker in the cast. Are you excited to see these characters return to the MCU?
Sir John Hurt passes away – Legendary British actor Sir John Hurt passed away this week. Hurt was well known for a host of film roles including Midnight Express, Alien, The Elephant Man, Ninteen Eighty-Four, Hellboy, V for Vendetta, Harry Potter, and most recently Jackie. He also recently appeared as one of the iterations of The Doctor in Doctor Who and had a prominent voice role in BBC’s Merlin.
